Question 1

Is floating safe? Can you drown in a float tank?

Accepted Answer

The water holds so much Epsom salt that it is impossible to sink — you would have to make a deliberate effort just to roll onto your side. Drowning in the tank is therefore practically impossible.

Question 2

Can you fall asleep in a float tank?

Accepted Answer

Yes, it happens and it's nothing to worry about. You stay on your back the whole time, and many guests wake up feeling at least twice as rested as after an ordinary nap.

Question 3

How should I prepare for my first float?

Accepted Answer

Avoid caffeine for about 3 hours beforehand, and arrive in good time so you can leave everyday noise behind. On your first visit, take a few extra minutes to read the instructions in the room calmly.

Question 4

What should I bring?

Accepted Answer

Perhaps a hairbrush and a contact lens case, plus a water bottle for afterwards. Towel, earplugs and neck pillow are included, and shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and a hairdryer are waiting for you.

Question 5

Should I wear a swimsuit when floating?

Accepted Answer

It's your choice, but since floating is about minimising sensations, friction from fabric can be distracting. We recommend floating without. The door locks and the room is completely private.

Question 6

I'm claustrophobic. Is floating a good idea?

Accepted Answer

We chose one of the roomiest tanks on the market so you can stretch out fully. You can keep the lid open, leave the light on and run the fan for airflow. You can stand up and step out at any time, and the door always opens from the inside. Feel free to contact us before booking and we'll guide you.

Question 7

Is it quiet during the float?

Accepted Answer

You choose from our sound programmes on the tablet — calm music, guided meditation or complete silence, depending on what you feel like that day.

Question 8

How often should I float?

Accepted Answer

It's individual, but like exercise, regularity gives the best results. We recommend at least once a month for lasting wellbeing; once a week is common if you're active or dealing with stress or muscle pain. It usually takes 2–3 sessions to truly learn to relax.

Question 9

When should I not float?

Accepted Answer

Avoid floating right after hair dye or spray tan, with open wounds (the salt stings), or just after shaving or waxing — Vaseline helps protect sensitive spots. Don't float if you feel feverish or unwell, or if you have a condition with a risk of seizures such as epilepsy. Ask your doctor if you're unsure.

Question 10

Can I float with freshly dyed hair?

Accepted Answer

Yes, as long as the colour is completely set. We recommend waiting 14 days after dyeing. If the water is discoloured the tank must be emptied and refilled, and a fee applies (see our booking terms).

Question 11

Can I float while pregnant?

Accepted Answer

Yes — floating even has several benefits during pregnancy. Weightless rest relieves muscles, joints and spine, and often helps sleep and relaxation. Check with your midwife if you're unsure.

Question 12

Can I float on my period?

Accepted Answer

Yes, as long as you follow the same routine you would in a regular swimming pool.

Question 13

Can I wear contact lenses in the float tank?

Accepted Answer

We strongly recommend taking them out. Besides stinging, water in contact with a lens can in rare cases cause serious eye infections.

Question 14

Is the float tank hygienic?

Accepted Answer

The tank filters the water automatically after every session, and the high Epsom salt concentration is naturally antiseptic. Floors and surfaces are cleaned after each visit, we check the pH regularly, and we send water samples to the City Environment Department for independent testing.

Question 15

Does floating dry out your skin?

Accepted Answer

No — Epsom salt is mineral-rich and actually moisturising. Many people with psoriasis or eczema notice an improvement. If your skin is sensitive, use lotion afterwards.

Question 16

Will the salt damage my hair?

Accepted Answer

No, but you'll usually need to shampoo once or twice to rinse it all out. Nourishing shampoo and conditioner are in the shower, and a tight swim cap helps if you're extra careful.

Question 17

How does it work without staff?

Accepted Answer

Float In Space is fully self-service: you get a door code when you book, and clear instructions guide you from check-in to checkout.

Question 18

Can two of us book at the same time?

Accepted Answer

We have one float tank, so two floats can't run at once. Book our Combo deal for two hours of access to the whole space, or book one float and one IR sauna session.

Question 19

Is the space wheelchair accessible?

Accepted Answer

We're in a 1930s building and unfortunately the space is not accessible by today's standards. Contact us with any accessibility questions before booking.
